Musical Storytelling

Musical Storytelling(part 1)( https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest)

To begin my story. It begins as me as a boy. I went to Wal-Mart i seen the tape of The little mermaid. I was wanting to see this movie so bad. It was just something about that drew me to this movie. I put on at my grandmother’s house as i sat back and watched it. I never seen it  such a magically charming movie like that as it was just pure and simple story that was purely magical to watch. I recall afterward often as a boy going to the store to buy a new Disney movie. It is the nature of Disney movies to seem to find a way to tell us a story that makes feel like a kid again.  It is the pure Disney magic and charm that has kept it alive for such a long time as i talk about the connections of music in Disney animated classics today which strikes me that truly connects you by its music alone so much so that Walt Disney called the directors room the music room as you never did story-point without it as music is the language that goes beyond the spoken word in classic Disney animated movies.  So i hope you enjoy my talk about it today.

Musical Storytelling

snow white and seven dwarfs(plot details form the wiki but its taking to bring context to article and moments of the song beats.

snow white and seven dwarfs begins everything of Disney traits to come even its musical connections to a bigger scale. Its where everything started for Disney animated classics.  Snow white starts with its title music which is a storybook theme to a book as we intro to its world.  Its storybook to where see the world of snow white open up to the castle with the the wicked queen. The queen is told about snow white being fairest in the land.

Snow white is doing here chores as normal for her as we begin to see her. She is singing somewhat as we intro to her. Its the frist song of movie which is a very simple fun song that bridges us into her. Its a simply fun little charming song as she sings to the birds.  The Prince, riding by the castle, hears her voice and is enchanted by it. He climbs over the castle wall. unseen by Snow White, who is singing to her reflection at the bottom of a well. The Prince joins in the singing, which startles and surprises Snow White; she runs indoors, but when he pleads for her to return she comes to the balcony and listens as he sings “One Song” to her. Unseen by both, the Queen watches from her window high above. Its simply a marvelous intro to it.

The Queen summons the Huntsman, whom she orders to take Snow White far into the forest, and kill her; she demands the girl’s heart as proof. The Huntsman is reluctant to do so, but is bound by his orders; he takes Snow White deep into the forest, where he lets her gather flowers as he refuses to kill her as he takes pig heart to bring to the queen. Its score here really does make you have many diffrent feelings.

we see her run trough the forest the soundtrack roars into bigger epic score.  Its a tension filled score and moments as she runs trough forest in fright.   she is met by the creatures of forest.

snow white sings to them a smile and song as we see the little birds and other creatures of forest.  she was ashamed of the fear she showed. the birds remind her they sing a song. its brightens the picture up form the darkness moments.  she sings “With a Smile and a Song” and asks them if they know of a place where she can stay they lead her to the cabin. This song is a very fun song that brings cheer after the gloom.

snow white sings whistle while you work as she sings as she cleans up the cabin of the the Seven Dwarfs as we then see one of the softest songs of movie as i feel its really a charming song that makes you happy and cheerful for snow white.  we next see in next scene the  the Seven Dwarfs whom are singing , singing “Heigh-Ho as they work then return home to find snow white.

they find snow white in their home as they are uneasy with her. we feel for her again but they are not so mean as they seem they welcome her. they are told to clean up by her for dinner as they do even grumpy whom is bit less willing to her then the others. they all are happy afterward but grumpy singing the silly song.

She then sings “Some Day My Prince Will Come” (referring to her romance with the Prince) before sending them up to bed for the night. Its another wishful and cheerful moment.

Queen prepares the poisoned apple and, dismissing the possibility that Snow White may be revived by ‘love’s first kiss as she walks into forest towards snow white. Its dark tone of its musical beats.

After the dwarfs have left the cottage, the Queen in disguise goes to Snow White and offers her the poisoned apple in which she tells is a magic wishing apple as she takes a bite.It turns the music darker as we see the scene unfold it really makes us weep.

we intro to the moments where snow white is sleeping in the casket as all animals see her sleeping. its the moments where we feel really sad for snow white as we feel all hope is lost. It was moment many stars cried out as they felt so sad when it first was shown on screens. we cut to prince kissing her as they save her the movie ends as she lives happy ever-after. It is where we all cheer as she lives happy at the end.

The film opens with Jiminy Cricket singing When You Wish Upon A Star as he sits on a bookshelf, on which can be found various literary classics, such as Peter PanAlice in Wonderland and Pinocchio, which is given a place of prominence.  It makes us see frist song of this wonderful classic as we see the award winning when you wish upon a star.
The little fun musical beats of the Little Wooden Head  we meet Gepetto whom is a very happy old man having fun with his puppet. Its the frist see of Pinocchio before. He says its time for bed as we see the wish upon star happen for him be a real boy.

The wishing star glows brighter as we see the blue fairy come into the workshop. She brings She approaches Pinocchio and brings the puppet to life with a tap of her wand, and his strings vanish without a trace. Pinocchio is delighted and surprised at his ability to move and talk as he is told he is not yet a real boy as he must prove self worthy by must proving himself brave, truthful, and unselfish in order to become one and learn the difference between right and wrong. After Jimmy hops in to explain to Pinocchio, the Blue Fairy decides to dub the cricket Pinocchio’s conscience and leaves, telling Pinocchio to always let his conscience be his guide. It’s where we start next beat of movie. Jimmy then sings Give A Little Whistle which is a very charming little song

The next day we see him going off to school as we meet the fox whom he says his name is honest john wanting to be an actor as he says to boy he never heard of being an actor as he sings an actor’s life for me another fun little beat of this wonderful gem. Honest John takes Pinocchio to Stromboli’s Caravan, where puppet master Stromboli buys the wooden boy and makes him his star attraction.  Its where we cut to Geppetto looking sadly for him. He tries to escape but captures by Stromboli whom tosses him back in cage as he says to boy once done ill turn you into fire wood.  He performs i got no strings for me which is often considered the classic Disney song.

It is next day as Geppetto still looking passes the the caravan, but his calls for Pinocchio are not heard over the rain and thunder that day. The blue fairy shows up as she asks why did he not go to school as he lies about it. She tells him each lie his nose will grow bigger. Pinocchio promises to never lie again, and his nose returns to its normal size. The Fairy then frees Pinocchio from the cage and vanishes, saying that this will be the last time she will help them as she says its last time she will help them ever. It has many musical cues that hint to the different moments such as the beats for the rain and the other for the blue fairy and the escape. It’s all very wonderfully crafted along with the scenes to make you feel something.

Meanwhile, the fox and cat are celebrating at the Red Lobster Inn as they are talking to each other. Seated opposite them is the Coachman, who listens to their story and decides to catch their attention with a huge bag of money telling them to bring stupid little boys to Pleasure Island as are afraid being caught but told they never return as boys. The fox and cat find Pinocchio racing Jimmy Cricket home, and pretend to be doctors, stating that he is ‘allergic’ and must go to Pleasure Island to get better as jimmy chases him down again which ends up to pleasure island which begins one of the biggest beats of movie in some ways in short period we see jimmy give up a bit then see the donkeys being the boys becoming slaves to save Pinocchio as they escape. The Geppetto’s workshop empty as get note form the blue fairy to look for Monstro. This scene beat has many wonderful musical cues from the score such as the sad moments to the tension beats. It all ends up being such a wonderful beat of this movie.

we see them finding  Monstro as we next meet  Geppetto and his cat friend they all end up in Monstro as they start fire to escape they end up on shore at end as Pinocchio dies on the shore he is taking back to the workshop as we see  Geppetto  crying over him. The scenes in water are very much given musical cues to the many moments to come that bring us to the moments where he ends up on shore.  The brave little boy has proven worthy.  The blue fairy brings him back to life as he becomes a real boy.  The ending is cheerful and happy as we see them all happy even the kitty and fish with blue fairy leaving jimmy to guide others. It ends our tale with many different beats to its score such as the tension filled beat to get free of the whale to the sad moments we see the Pinocchio dead to the moment where blue fairy brings him back to life as they all have a cheerful and glee to themselves.  Pinocchio has such a wonderful score that does make each mood connect to its score. It’s simply a classic you should see

Fantasia is one of those movies that is something truly special in the annals of movies. After over seventy years, Walt Disney’s Fantasia remains one of most shining examples of animation and music ever committed to film. So today my review of this classic movie which remains one of the best examples of a fine animated gem as its all song its basically one of the easier movies to break down for its songs.

Fantasia was released in Released in 1940 in the middle of World War II,Fantasia” was initially envisioned as a short film to reinvigorate the sagging popularity of Mickey Mickey Mouse as the war really was impacting hard upon Disney. Fantasia was a critical and popular failure in its own day but with the passage of time it has become a beloved classic to many today. This Disney production was an ambitious experiment to try to popularize classical music Fantasia has eight finely animated shorts to music which each is very different form the other but it connected together through the art of classical music.

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor intros into the movie as it shows a section that shows various abstract imagery to the beat of “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor which has Live-action shots of the orchestra illuminated in blue and gold, backed by superimposed shadows, fade into abstract patterns. Animated lines, shapes and cloud formations reflect the sound and rhythms of the music as its very enjoyable to listen to it any time along with Nutcracker Suite scene has many different changes to its scene that goes form images of dancing fairies flowers and more as it goes along with the seasons this scene is a richly deep scene with such magical animated wonders to behold as each change in the tone of it really reflects the musical cues of the music at that moment of the scene. It’s really one marvelous gem of a scene that has such its mesmerizing cinematography.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is probably the most famous short of all of the shorts of Fantasia based upon The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” (German: Der Zauberlehrling) is a poem by Goethe written in 1797 which is what that part was based upon. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas tells the story of . Mickey Mouse, the young apprentice of the sorcerer Yen Sid, attempts some of his master’s magic tricks but does not know how to control them as it is one of the most beloved parts of this classic movie it is such a fun little gem of animation that really has such marvelous cinematography along with a rich soundtrack to boot for it.

Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. A visual history of the Earth’s beginnings is depicted to selected sections of the ballet score. The sequence progresses from the planet’s formation to the first living creatures, followed by the reign and extinction of the dinosaurs as it’s one of the longest parts of the movie but it is such a richly animated scene that has such marvelous wonders to behold. I would say it has some of the finest animated dinosaurs ever put to the screen. The Pastoral Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven. A mythical Greco-Roman world of colorful centaurs & centaurettes”, cupids, fauns and other figures from classical mythology is portrayed to Beethoven’s music. This scene sparked an interest in classical mythology for me as it’s such a marvelous treasure trove of mythology characters form the classical mythology it does have such a rich depth to its animation that goes along to the music perfectly as ever.

Dance of the Hours by Amilcare Ponchielli. A comic ballet in four sections that has many creatures dancing alongside to music as this charming gem of a scene really flows along well to the beat of the music it’s such a charming and fun scene to watch with its charming and comical nature along with its great music and rich cinematography. Night on Bald Mountain depicts a demon on top of a mountain summoning the dead and damned to dance and party around him atop his mountain. Absolutely terrifying cacodemonic animation coupled with Mussorgsky’s dramatic, intimidating score along with it. Vladimir Tytla is the only man who could possibly have pulled off this dramatic, spell bindingly horrific sequence that is one of the finest pieces of animation ever put to the screen.

Fantasia is truly a film that was way ahead of its time in almost every aspect imaginable. From outstanding segments like The Rite of Spring and Night on Bald Mountain to the excellent orchestration of the classical music by Leopold Stokowski and his orchestra, to the tremendous craft of the animation and it’s wonderful cinematography and music that makes it one of the finest animated movies so see Fantasia because you truly will love this marvelous gem.’

Musical Storytelling part 1 ending

The Shop Around the Corner

The Shop Around the Corner(https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest)

So today I talk about the The Shop Around the Corner which is directed by Ernst Lubitsch whom is such a wonderful director with many wonderful classics i adore to watch often. Lubitsch’s charming masterpiece, so often imitated and re-adapted since it appeared in 1940 as its so charming and enduring to watch on screen as today i talk about why i adore this classic so much.

The Shop Around the Corner review

Ernst Lubitsch’s charming masterpiece  is often imitated and re-adapted since it appeared in 1940, is one of the very few films that can be called perfect. Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart worked in several films together as this flim shows them at their collective best performances.  Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan play off each other well as they are a perfect pair.  Frank Morgan is truly wonderful in his performance as one of the leads as the owner of shop he truly is at his best of performances.  It has such wonderful acting by everyone in its cast.

The Shop Around the Corner is a charming comedy gem in Ernst Lubitsch had another quiet triumph added to his credit with this lovely film as this charming little shop could be set anywhere in the world. The shop is a life microcosm with its little quiet joys and its bitter disappointments it feels very close to frank Capra in its charms. It is one of the sweetest and most charming of comedies as this delightful classic is one of a kind. Everything works out perfectly in this perfect film which was often remade but never matched to same level as this wonderful classic comedy that will delight you for ages to come.

This comedy classic is one of the truly best screwball comedies all time as i talk about this fast and witty comic gem which I truly adore to death.  I hope you enjoy my review of this comedy classic.

His girl Friday review

This classic comedy done by Howard hawks is one truly classic comedy gem that is one of my favorite movies all time. I truly adore this screwball classic. Cary Grant stars in this classic movie as he truly makes one of his fine performances on the screen.  Its truly one of his finest roles as he is truly a fun actor to watch on the screen as this movie shows you why as he truly is wonderful in the role. Rosalind Russell stars in this classic movie as he truly makes one of his fine performances on the screen as it is truly one of her finest roles as she is truly wonderful in this role giving us one of the finest performances she ever gave on screen.  Ralph Bellamy as Bruce Baldwin is truly wonderful in his role on screen. The film’s supporting cast is no less impressive, with every single role cast to perfection as all of them truly shine in their respective roles on the screen. It is truly fine acting by everyone in this wonderful cast of talented people all giving out wonderful performances.

Cart Grant and Rosalind Russell who make a great team together on the screen as one of finest duos all time together.  It’s truly fine acting by both of the duo as they have great comic timing and wit that brings both their roles to the screen in such a wonderful way. Hawks’ compositions are layered with fore and background action and depth, but the film is about its dialogue more than its visual elements as its fast and sharp but it comes at you fast as a machine gun.  This is a comedy of rhythm and words that truly is something special with such great charm to each word that is truly wonderful on screen.

Howard hawks was truly a wonderful director that crafts out such a wonderful tale with such wonderful wit and timing that is comedy gold to watch unfold on the screen. My Girl Friday successfully combines screwball romantic comedy with biting satire that truly makes it the true comedy classic.

Be sure check out others form event.

Camille review

Of all the love stories no one does it as a well as Garbo does as i truly cried with this classic gem as It’s all about the unquestionable love from a lady that has played many men and that has been played many times over when she meets a younger man she finds love to be the happiest girl on earth as she gets sick it truly is one sad thing to see her lose that love.

Greta Garbo channels the soul of this damaged soul so perfectly in her performance to channel the emotions to pull at your heart-strings as this may be her finest performance. Robert Taylor plays one wonderful role in the movie. This movie shows you why Garbo was such an amazing legend. MGM has lavishly produced the film. The cinematography, art direction and costume design are lavish and exceptionally beautiful. The supporting performances are all wonderful. George Cukor crafted out one of his finest classics all time. The performances were exceptional by everyone starring in this classic movie. The costumes are gorgeous as an example of French extravagance despite the fact that Camille was made in the 30s. Garbo earned an Academy Award nomination and the New York Film Critics Best Actress Award for her memorable work in which you can see why in this movie. It’s truly one classic that i adore as its simply such a moving tale to watch on the screen.

Camille is a film that will live on forever in our hearts as its truly a wonderful classic with wonderful acting by everyone and wonderfully crafted by George Cukor. Its a classic you simply will adore to see anytime.

the time machine

the time machine(https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest)

So today I talk about the time machine which is directed by George Pal whom made some of my favorite films all time.  As a boy I loved reading the stories of adventure and fantasy as i would say George Pal movies are those types of tales to a tee. It’s truly fun to watch these classics unfold on the screen.  The Time Machine may be one of greatest scfi classics all time to my eyes as it’s truly a fun classic with the wonderful Rod Taylor of Hitchcock fame whom is a favorite of mine’s. G. Wells’ sci-fi tale is brought to the screen with magic and charm so my review today will tell you why I adore this classic.

the time machine review

In 1960, filmmaker George Pal brought to fruition a visionary concept for a film based on a the time machine which was written  H.G. Wells as this scfi classic brings it to life on the screen.  Rod Taylor passed away just four days shy of his 85th birthday with close to 60 films credits, his last performance was as Winston Churchill in Inglorious Bustards as truly he began with the birds. This movie may be one of his finest hours on the screen.  The story is brilliantly told on screen with such wonderful special effects. Director George Pal puts together a film is fun to watch on screen with such marvelous acting by its cast and wonderful special effects.  The Morlocks aren’t really evil as they are products of their age and time period. I would say they are some of most scary creatures on the screen to see on the screen.

The Time Machine has such wonderful creature designs with wonderful special effects and wonderful acting and direction. We always ask one another if we would go back or forth in time if having the option giving in the time machine as this is a great adaptation of the excellent novel. Just as George Pal has shown us that it’s the characters and the story that count, Nicholas Meyers achieved the same type of success years later with the film Time After Time as same is done with this wonderful classic movie.

The Ruth rating:five bette's

I hope you enjoyed my talk about the time machine  today which frankly is one amazing classic gem that i simply adored to talk about today.see you next time for another classic review soon.

Portrait of jenny

Portrait of jenny(https://www.facebook.com/Wolffianclassicmoviesdigest)

So today I talk about Portrait of jenny which was a beguiling fantasy that was a David O. Selznick production that truly shines in every way as its a poetic and lyrical tale that may be one of the screen’s finest gems ever put to the screen as this ethereal, inspiring fantasy-romance in the vein of The Ghost and Mrs Muir, Somewhere in Time and The Time Traveller’s Wife really is one of those tales you can watch anytime. I will tell you why in my review.

Portrait of jenny review

Robert Nathan’s book truly is one marvelous book that is lyrical the flim captures it perfectly.  Portrait Of Jennie is a romance/drama/fantasy was produced by David Selznick, who produced most of Jennifer Jones film whom was her husband as he is best remembered for producing gone with wind.  It’s the middle of the Depression, 1934, and struggling artist Joseph Cotten can’t seem to find his muse but he finds one day inspiration by meeting an enchanting girl while in Central Park. He resolves right then and there to paint a Portrait of Jennie.

This is one of my favorite movies of all times and especially because of the performance of Jennifer Jones as truly she is so lovely and enchanting to watch on screen as I think this movie and song of Bernadette both show how truly amazing her talent as an actress. It’s her role in this movie I feel is one of her finest ever as an actress. Joseph Cotton gives us one of his finest hours as he tries find out more about this girl to be inspired paint one amazing painting of her. , Ethel Barrymore plays Miss Spinney as she plays this old woman whom often buys the paintings as she plays such a remarkable role. Lillian Gish plays a remarkable role. It has amazing acting by everyone in its cast.

This film has a very haunting theme with black and white and then a color background as it’s truly a wonderful film to watch unfold. The last shot in Technicolor is breathtaking to watch on screen. I love the special effects, especially the opening with the canvas effect to the filming it deservedly won the Oscar for special effects that year as it does show how amazing it is in that department. Its simply one of best special effect driven classics of that era.

Dmitri Tiomkin’s lush score is truly one of the best scores of classic era of movies as also with its wonderful seductive visuals. It has wonderful performances from one of the finest classics of that era with memorable supporting roles for Lillian Gish, David Wayne and especially Ethel Barrymore and wonderful acting of Joseph Cotton and Jennifer Jones as this kind of grand sweeping romance is only found in books and movies that simply is a marvelous classic that is one of finest classics of any age making it this classic a must see classic.
